# invisit vs Plausible

> Plausible and invisit are both cookieless and store data in Germany. Choose Plausible to self-host, for the lightest script or for EU-owned providers throughout. Choose invisit for funnels, revenue from Stripe or Paddle, heatmaps and crawler reads on every paid plan: $49 at 1M events against $139 on Plausible Business.

- Page: https://invisit.dev/compare/plausible
- Facts about Plausible last verified: 2026-11-03, from [plausible.io](https://plausible.io)'s own pages
- Pricing: monthly billing, the cheapest plan step that covers each volume. invisit bills events (page views and custom events); Plausible bills pageviews and custom events.

## At a glance

- Price at 1M events a month: invisit $49, Plausible Starter $69, Plausible Growth $104, Plausible Business $139, so invisit costs 65% less than Plausible Business.
- Free plan: invisit, up to 20K events a month with no time limit. Plausible: No. No hosted free plan; Community Edition is free to self-host.
- Only invisit, of the two: Per-visit timelines, Heatmaps, Web vitals, Crawler reads (search and AI bots), Short links, On-page feedback, Free plan.
- Where Plausible is ahead: You want to self-host. Plausible Community Edition is AGPLv3 and free to run, without funnels, user journeys or revenue goals.

## Choose invisit if

- You need funnels, custom properties, revenue or an API without paying for Plausible Business: $49 against $139 at 1M events.
- Revenue should come from Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy, with refunds, fees and net, not from code on your success page.
- You run more than 10 sites, or want teammates without upgrading. Plausible Starter is solo and Business stops at 10 sites.
- You want per-visit timelines, heatmaps, web vitals and a record of which search and AI crawlers read your pages.
- You want a free plan for small sites, not a 30-day trial.

## Choose Plausible if

- You want to self-host. Plausible Community Edition is AGPLv3 and free to run, without funnels, user journeys or revenue goals.
- Every company that touches visitor data must be EU-owned, CDN included. Plausible uses Hetzner, UpCloud and Bunny; invisit sits behind Cloudflare.
- You want the lightest tracker (about 2.5 KB gzipped against 8.5 KB), or core stats for one site past 2M page views, where Plausible Starter costs less.
- You want Search Console queries in the dashboard, weekly or monthly email and Slack reports, and your Google Analytics 4 history imported.
- You want each purchase credited to the campaign and landing page of the visit it happened in, which Plausible revenue goals do on Business.

## Why teams pick invisit

invisit starts from a simple question: who actually came to your site, and what brought them there? So it leads with people, not only totals. Each visit keeps its pages and events in order, next to where it came from, including the AI assistants that now send real visitors.

It also covers the jobs that usually need a second tool. Revenue arrives straight from your payment provider, crawler reads show which search engines and AI bots read your pages, and heatmaps, web vitals, short links and feedback sit in the same dashboard. Every paid plan has every feature, so there is no tier to outgrow.

And it stays out of your visitors’ way: no cookies, no banner, nothing that follows anyone from one day to the next.

## Which Plausible plan do you need: Starter, Growth or Business?

You need Plausible's Business plan for funnels, revenue, custom properties or the Stats API. invisit includes all four on every plan, the free one too (revenue as totals and charts; the list of charges needs a paid plan). Plausible's self-serve plans share the same pageview tiers and differ in features, sites and seats ([Plausible's pricing](https://plausible.io/#pricing), as of November 2026):

| | Plausible Starter | Plausible Growth | Plausible Business | invisit paid plans |
| ----------------------- | ----------------- | ---------------- | -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------- |
| Sites                   | 1                 | 3                | 10                                     | Unlimited                       |
| Team members            | Just you          | 3                | 10                                     | Viewer, member and owner roles  |
| Custom properties       | No                | No               | Yes                                    | Yes, up to 32 per event         |
| Funnels                 | No                | No               | Yes                                    | Yes                             |
| Revenue | No | No | Sent from your code | Read from your payment provider |
| Reporting API | No | No | Stats API, 600 requests an hour | REST API |
| MCP server              | No                | No               | Community-built, needs a Stats API key | Official                        |
| Email and Slack reports | Yes               | Yes              | Yes                                    | No                              |

Growth adds shared links, with an optional password, and embedded dashboards. Business adds user journeys and a consolidated view across sites. Past 10 sites or 10 members you need a custom Enterprise plan, which is also where SSO and a managed proxy live ([plan guide](https://plausible.io/docs/subscription-plans)).

Since invisit has one feature set on every paid plan, the fair comparison is Plausible Business. invisit also has a free plan, 20,000 events a month on 4 sites with no time limit; Plausible has no hosted free plan.

## How much does Plausible cost at 300K page views a month?

A SaaS with 300K page views and 20K custom events a month pays $99 on Plausible Business and $49 on invisit. Plausible bills pageviews plus custom events across a team's sites, and outbound link clicks, file downloads and form submissions count as custom events. 320K lands in Plausible's 500K tier (Starter $49, Growth $74, Business $99) and in invisit's 1M step at $49.

The price table above stops at 10K, 100K, 1M and 10M. The steps in between, on monthly billing:

| Events a month | invisit | Plausible Starter | Plausible Growth | Plausible Business |
| -------------- | ------- | ----------------- | ---------------- | ------------------ |
| 250K           | $24     | $49               | $74              | $99                |
| 500K           | $49     | $49               | $74              | $99                |
| 2M             | $99     | $89               | $134             | $179               |
| 5M             | $199    | $129              | $194             | $259               |

invisit costs less than Plausible Business at every volume. Plausible Starter is cheaper from 2M up, if one site, one login and no funnels are enough, and Growth edges under invisit at 5M.

Neither charges overage fees. After two months in a row over your tier, Plausible asks you to upgrade and locks dashboards a week later if you have not, while it keeps collecting. invisit records the first month over in full, and in a second month over in a row pauses new events at the limit until you upgrade or the month turns. A year costs ten months' price on Plausible and nine on invisit ([invisit billing](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/billing.md)).

## Plausible revenue tracking vs reading Stripe and Paddle directly

Plausible records revenue your own code sends, on its Business plan. invisit reads revenue from your payment provider on every plan, with no code in the checkout.

With [Plausible's revenue goals](https://plausible.io/docs/ecommerce-revenue-tracking) you send `revenue: { amount, currency }` with an event from your success page or the checkout's success callback. Each purchase is credited to the source, campaign and landing page of that visit. Renewals, refunds, chargebacks and payments confirmed after the visitor leaves, such as SEPA debits, cannot be tied to a visit, so Plausible's docs say not to send them and to expect lower revenue than your billing tool shows.

invisit connects to Stripe, Paddle, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, Creem or Dodo Payments and reads payments, refunds, disputes, fees and net, and charts them beside your traffic ([connect a provider](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/revenue.md#connect-a-provider)). If first-purchase revenue per campaign is the number you manage by, Plausible answers it directly. If you want what your account actually received, read it from the provider.

## Does Plausible need a cookie banner? Privacy and EU hosting compared

Neither Plausible nor invisit sets cookies, so neither needs a consent banner for analytics. Both tell visitors apart with a hash that changes daily, and neither stores raw IP addresses.

[Plausible's data policy](https://plausible.io/data-policy) hashes a daily salt, the site domain, the IP address and the User-Agent, and deletes the salt every 24 hours. On top of its daily hash, invisit can honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track ([`respectGpc` and `respectDnt`](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/privacy.md)), strips sensitive URL parameters, redacts email addresses in values, and offers a [consent mode](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/privacy.md#requiring-consent) for sites whose policy wants one.

Both keep analytics data at Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany. Plausible is an Estonian company and only European-owned providers touch its visitor data: Hetzner, UpCloud (Finland) and Bunny (Slovenia) as its CDN ([Plausible's EU hosting](https://plausible.io/eu-hosted-web-analytics)). invisit runs DNS and CDN through Cloudflare, a US company. If your legal review requires EU ownership of every provider, Plausible meets it and invisit does not. Both offer a DPA ([invisit's](/legal/dpa)).

## What Plausible leaves out: heatmaps, visit timelines, web vitals and crawler reads

Plausible has no heatmaps, no per-visit view and no web vitals, and invisit has all three. Plausible's [when not to use Plausible](https://plausible.io/when-not-to-use-plausible) page rules out heatmaps and individual session views by design: it keeps no user profiles and records no individual sessions.

Plausible offers automatic scroll depth instead, and on Business, user journeys: aggregate paths before or after a page or goal. invisit keeps each visit's pages and events in order (live visits in the dashboard, any visit through the API and MCP), next to where it came from, click and scroll heatmaps over your real pages, and LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB from real visitors, never billed.

On AI, both see referrals. Plausible has an [AI Assistants channel](https://plausible.io/track-ai-traffic) for ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and others, and filters AI crawlers out. invisit recognises 19 assistants by referrer and `utm_source` ([AI assistant traffic](/blog/ai-assistant-traffic)), and `@invisitdev/server` also [records crawler reads](https://invisit.dev/docs/server/sdk.md#crawler-reads), including fetches like ChatGPT-User, unbilled.

Neither has session recordings or retention cohorts. invisit adds short links, an on-page feedback widget, and alerts for spikes, drops and silence to Slack, Discord, ntfy or a webhook, where Plausible sends spike and drop emails.

## Can you self-host Plausible? Community Edition vs Plausible Cloud

Yes. Plausible Community Edition is free under AGPLv3 on your own server, while invisit cannot be self-hosted. invisit's tracker and SDKs are MIT, but its dashboard and backend are proprietary.

[Plausible's own comparison](https://plausible.io/self-hosted-web-analytics) lists the trade. Community Edition ships about twice a year (v3.2.1 in May 2026), leaves out funnels, user journeys, revenue goals, SSO and the Sites API, filters bots by User-Agent and referrer spam only, and has community support only. You own the server, backups and security updates. If you can run that and the core dashboard is enough, Community Edition costs you only the server.

## When Plausible is the better choice

Plausible is the better choice when one of these is a requirement, not a preference.

- Self-hosting. Community Edition is the only way in this matchup to run analytics on your own servers.
- EU ownership end to end. Every provider that touches Plausible's visitor data is European-owned, CDN included; invisit sits behind Cloudflare.
- The lightest tracker. Plausible's script is about 2.5 KB gzipped; invisit's core `invisit.js` is about 8.5 KB, with heatmap and feedback modules loading only when used.
- Search Console queries, clicks and positions inside the dashboard. invisit has no Search Console integration.
- Weekly or monthly email reports, also to Slack. invisit has no scheduled email reports; a public dashboard or the [MCP server](https://invisit.dev/docs/api/mcp.md) come closest.
- Your Google Analytics history. Plausible imports GA4 properties and CSV files. invisit cannot import history.
- One site at high volume with core stats only: Plausible Starter is $89 at 2M and $169 at 10M, against $99 and $199 on invisit.

## Switching from Plausible to invisit

Run both trackers side by side, move your events, connect your payment provider, then remove Plausible.

1. [Install invisit](https://invisit.dev/docs/web/installation.md) next to the Plausible snippet, or add `@invisitdev/web` to your bundle ([frameworks](https://invisit.dev/docs/web/frameworks.md)).
2. Replace each `plausible()` call, or `track()` from `@plausible-analytics/tracker`, with invisit's `track()`. Properties lose the `props` wrapper, and names use letters, digits and `_ . : -`, so `Sign Up` becomes `sign_up`.
3. Drop the `revenue` option and [connect your payment provider](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/revenue.md#connect-a-provider).
4. If you proxy Plausible, use `@invisitdev/server` to [serve invisit from your domain](https://invisit.dev/docs/server/sdk.md#proxy).
5. Compare both dashboards for two to four weeks, then remove the Plausible snippet.

| Plausible                              | invisit                        |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| `init({ domain: 'example.com' })`      | `init({ site: '<site id>' })`  |
| `class="plausible-event-name=Sign+Up"` | `data-invisit-event="sign_up"` |
| No equivalent                          | `identify(user.id)`            |

```ts title="src/analytics.ts"
// Before: Plausible (script tag, or track() from @plausible-analytics/tracker)
plausible('Sign Up', { props: { plan: 'pro' } })
plausible('Purchase', { revenue: { amount: 49, currency: 'USD' } })
// After: invisit
import { identify, init, track } from '@invisitdev/web'
init({ site: '<site id>' })
track('sign_up', { plan: 'pro' })
identify(user.id)
// No purchase call: invisit reads payments from Stripe, Paddle or Polar
```

invisit cannot import your Plausible history, so export it first. In Plausible's site settings, Imports & Exports, Export to CSV queues a ZIP and emails you the link: one CSV per report, a row per day for each page and source ([export guide](https://plausible.io/docs/export-stats)). It works after a trial or subscription ends, until Plausible deletes the stats, but leaves out data you imported from Google Analytics.

Expect small gaps between the two while both run: they filter bots differently and define a visit their own way.

## Common questions

### Is invisit cheaper than Plausible?

At 1M events a month invisit costs $49 a month, and Plausible Starter costs $69 a month, Plausible Growth costs $104 a month, and Plausible Business costs $139 a month, so invisit costs 65% less than Plausible Business. invisit bills page views and custom events; Plausible bills pageviews and custom events. Prices checked against Plausible's pricing page on November 3, 2026.

### Does Plausible have a free plan?

No, Plausible has no free plan: no hosted free plan; Community Edition is free to self-host. invisit is free up to 20K events a month with no time limit, and its free plan has nearly every feature.

### What does invisit have that Plausible does not?

invisit includes per-visit timelines, heatmaps, web vitals, crawler reads (search and AI bots), short links, on-page feedback, and free plan; Plausible does not, as of November 3, 2026.

### When should I choose Plausible over invisit?

Plausible suits you better than invisit when one of these is true. You want to self-host. Plausible Community Edition is AGPLv3 and free to run, without funnels, user journeys or revenue goals. Every company that touches visitor data must be EU-owned, CDN included. Plausible uses Hetzner, UpCloud and Bunny; invisit sits behind Cloudflare. You want the lightest tracker (about 2.5 KB gzipped against 8.5 KB), or core stats for one site past 2M page views, where Plausible Starter costs less. You want Search Console queries in the dashboard, weekly or monthly email and Slack reports, and your Google Analytics 4 history imported. You want each purchase credited to the campaign and landing page of the visit it happened in, which Plausible revenue goals do on Business.

### When should I choose invisit over Plausible?

invisit suits you better than Plausible when one of these is true. You need funnels, custom properties, revenue or an API without paying for Plausible Business: $49 against $139 at 1M events. Revenue should come from Stripe, Paddle, Polar or Lemon Squeezy, with refunds, fees and net, not from code on your success page. You run more than 10 sites, or want teammates without upgrading. Plausible Starter is solo and Business stops at 10 sites. You want per-visit timelines, heatmaps, web vitals and a record of which search and AI crawlers read your pages. You want a free plan for small sites, not a 30-day trial.

### Is Plausible GDPR compliant without a cookie banner?

As of November 2026, Plausible states that its hosted service needs no cookie banner or consent for analytics: it sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses or User-Agent strings, and keeps visitor data in the EU on Hetzner servers in Falkenstein, Germany. It offers a DPA and a legal assessment. invisit also sets no cookies, also stores data in Falkenstein, and offers a DPA.

### Does Plausible use cookies or local storage?

No. As of November 2026, Plausible says it uses no cookies, browser cache or local storage and creates no persistent identifiers. It counts unique visitors with a hash of a daily salt, the site domain, the IP address and the User-Agent, and deletes the salt every 24 hours, so nobody is recognised across days. invisit likewise tells visitors apart with a hash that rotates every day, with no cookies or device identifiers.

### Can I self-host Plausible for free?

Yes. Plausible Community Edition is free under AGPLv3 and runs on your own server. As of November 2026 it is released about twice a year, has basic bot filtering and community support only, and leaves out funnels, user journeys, ecommerce revenue goals, SSO, the Sites API and the Data Studio connector. invisit has no self-hosted edition; only its tracker and SDKs are open source (MIT).

### Which Plausible plan includes funnels and revenue tracking?

The Business plan. As of November 2026, funnels, user journeys, revenue goals, custom properties, the Stats API and the consolidated view are Plausible Business features, priced from $19 a month at 10K page views to $339 at 10M. Starter and Growth leave them out. invisit includes funnels, event properties, revenue and its REST API on every paid plan, from $14 a month.

### What happens if I go over my Plausible pageview limit?

As of November 2026, Plausible charges nothing for one month over. After two consecutive months over, it asks you to upgrade, and if you have not a week after that notice, your dashboards lock while stats keep being collected. invisit warns at 80%, records the first month over in full, and in a second month over in a row pauses new events at the limit until you upgrade or the month turns.

### Does Plausible show traffic from ChatGPT and other AI assistants?

Yes. Since June 2026, Plausible groups visits from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and other known assistants into an AI Assistants channel, and filters AI crawlers out of the stats. invisit recognises 19 assistants by referrer and utm_source in its own AI tab, and with @invisitdev/server also records which search and AI crawlers read your pages, without billing them.
