# invisit vs Vercel Web Analytics

> Vercel Web Analytics is the simplest pick for a site already on Vercel Pro: one toggle, a 2 KB script and $3 per 100K events, but it only runs on Vercel and keeps 1 to 24 months of data. invisit works on any host, keeps data forever, and adds funnels, heatmaps, web vitals and revenue.

- Page: https://invisit.dev/compare/vercel-analytics
- Facts about Vercel Web Analytics last verified: 2026-11-03, from [vercel.com](https://vercel.com/products/observability)'s own pages
- Pricing: monthly billing, the cheapest plan step that covers each volume. invisit bills events (page views and custom events); Vercel Web Analytics bills page views and custom events, pooled across all projects in a team.

## At a glance

- Price at 1M events a month: invisit $49, Vercel Web Analytics Pro $30, Vercel Web Analytics Pro + Plus $40.
- Free plan: invisit, up to 20K events a month with no time limit. Vercel Web Analytics: Partly. 50K events a month on Hobby, for non-commercial sites only.
- Only invisit, of the two: Data stored in the EU, Funnels, Per-visit timelines, Heatmaps, AI assistant referrals, Revenue, Public dashboards, Short links, On-page feedback.
- Where Vercel Web Analytics is ahead: Your commercial site already runs on Vercel Pro, and you want analytics on the same bill with no new vendor, script domain or proxy to set up.

## Choose invisit if

- Your site is hosted somewhere other than Vercel, or might move: invisit works on any host.
- You want data kept forever, not for a 1, 12 or 24 month reporting window.
- You need funnels, per-visit timelines, heatmaps or revenue from Stripe or Paddle, none of which Vercel Web Analytics offers.
- You want web vitals and AI assistant referrals in the same dashboard, with no per-project Speed Insights fee.
- You want analytics data stored in the EU, in Germany, rather than processed mainly in the US.

## Choose Vercel Web Analytics if

- Your commercial site already runs on Vercel Pro, and you want analytics on the same bill with no new vendor, script domain or proxy to set up.
- You stay under about 6M events a month: at $3 per 100K, Vercel events cost about the same as or less than invisit once Pro is paid for.
- You run feature flags or A/B tests with Vercel Flags and want page views and events split by variant.
- You want the smallest tracker: about 2 KB gzipped, a quarter of invisit's script.
- You want AI crawler and assistant fetches in Vercel Observability, read at the edge with no server SDK to install.

## Why teams pick invisit

invisit starts from a simple question: who actually came to your site, and what brought them there? So it leads with people, not only totals. Each visit keeps its pages and events in order, next to where it came from, including the AI assistants that now send real visitors.

It also covers the jobs that usually need a second tool. Revenue arrives straight from your payment provider, crawler reads show which search engines and AI bots read your pages, and heatmaps, web vitals, short links and feedback sit in the same dashboard. Every paid plan has every feature, so there is no tier to outgrow.

And it stays out of your visitors’ way: no cookies, no banner, nothing that follows anyone from one day to the next.

## Does Vercel Web Analytics work if your site is not on Vercel?

Not on its own. Vercel Web Analytics collects through routes Vercel adds to your deployment (`/_vercel/insights/*` and a per-project unique path), so the pages, or at least those paths, must be served by a Vercel deployment. invisit works on any host, with a script tag or the `@invisitdev/web` package ([installation](https://invisit.dev/docs/web/installation.md), [frameworks](https://invisit.dev/docs/web/frameworks.md)).

Vercel's [quickstart](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/quickstart) starts from a Vercel project and ends with `vercel deploy`, and the [`@vercel/analytics` README](https://github.com/vercel/analytics/blob/main/packages/web/README.md) describes tracking for sites "deployed to Vercel". The [package options](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/package#eventendpoint) can point its script and endpoints at another Vercel deployment, and the [troubleshooting page](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/troubleshooting) advises against putting a reverse proxy in front of Vercel at all.

This matters most when you might move. Leaving Vercel stops collection, and what you collected is only guaranteed for your plan's reporting window.

## Vercel Web Analytics pricing: Hobby, Pro and Web Analytics Plus

Vercel Web Analytics is free on Hobby up to 50,000 events a month, but Hobby is for non-commercial sites only. Commercial sites need Pro, where events cost $3 per 100K and the Web Analytics Plus add-on is $10 a month per team. invisit has one feature set on every paid plan, priced by volume.

As of November 2026, from [Vercel's Web Analytics pricing](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/limits-and-pricing) and [fair use guidelines](https://vercel.com/docs/limits/fair-use-guidelines#commercial-usage):

| | Vercel Hobby | Vercel Pro | Pro with Web Analytics Plus | invisit paid plans |
| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| Price         | Free                                            | $20 a month per deploying seat, then $3 per 100K events | Pro plus $10 a month        | $14 for 100K events to $199 for 10M |
| Events | 50K a month, then collection stops after 3 days | Billed per event | Billed per event | Plan volume |
| Data kept     | 1 month                                         | 12 months                                               | 24 months                   | Forever                             |
| Custom events | No                                              | 2 properties                                            | 8 properties                | Up to 32 properties                 |
| Team members | Just you | $20 per deploying seat, viewers free | Same as Pro | On every plan |

Plus also adds UTM parameter breakdowns; invisit reports campaigns and UTM source and medium on every plan. Pro bills every collected event; [Spend Management](https://vercel.com/docs/spend-management) can alert you or pause projects at an amount you set. On invisit, the first month over your limit is still fully recorded, and only a second month over in a row pauses new events ([billing](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/billing.md)).

## How much does Vercel Web Analytics cost at 1M events?

On Vercel Pro, 1M events are $30 of usage. The Pro plan's $20 monthly credit covers the first $20 of that, so a Pro team with no other usage pays $30, or $40 with Web Analytics Plus. invisit costs $49 at 1M events.

The [Pro plan](https://vercel.com/docs/plans/pro-plan#platform-fee) is a $20 platform fee that includes one deploying seat and $20 of usage credit. Each extra seat that can deploy is another $20; viewer seats are free. The credit is shared with everything else the team uses, such as functions and image optimization, so when hosting has spent it, analytics adds the full $3 per 100K on top. The price table above includes the $20 fee and assumes the credit goes to analytics.

| Events a month | Vercel event usage | Vercel Pro with Plus, analytics only | invisit |
| -------------- | ------------------ | ------------------------------------ | ------- |
| 100K           | $3                 | $30                                  | $14     |
| 1M             | $30                | $40                                  | $49     |
| 10M            | $300               | $310                                 | $199    |

A worked example: a SaaS on Vercel Pro with 300K page views and 50K custom events sends 350K events, $10.50 of usage. If its hosting fits in the rest of the credit, the bill is the $20 fee plus $10 for Plus, $30 a month. If hosting has already spent the credit, it is $40.50. On invisit the same 350K events fall in the 1M plan at $49 a month, on any host.

So on price alone, a team that already pays for Vercel Pro gets Vercel's analytics for about the same or less up to about 6M events a month. Above that invisit costs less: $199 at 10M against $310.

## What can you track with Vercel Web Analytics custom events?

Vercel Web Analytics [custom events](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/custom-events) are available on Pro and Enterprise only, with 2 properties per event on Pro and 8 with Web Analytics Plus. Values must be flat strings, numbers, booleans or null, at most 255 characters. invisit accepts up to 32 properties per event.

Vercel shows events in a panel you can drill into by property, and since December 2025 you can split the data by event name or property. There is no funnel report, no goal or conversion rate, and no per-visit view: Vercel's [privacy page](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy) says data is used for aggregated statistics only.

invisit builds [funnels](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/events.md#funnels) from pages or events, split by source, country or device, and saves them. Each visit keeps a timeline of its pages and events, live in the dashboard and at any age through the API and MCP, next to where it came from, and `identify(user.id)` attaches your own hashed user id. Heatmaps of clicks and scroll depth, and [revenue from Stripe, Paddle and other providers](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/revenue.md#connect-a-provider), have no counterpart in Vercel Web Analytics.

## Is Speed Insights included in Vercel Web Analytics?

No. Core Web Vitals live in Vercel Speed Insights, a separate product with its own package (`@vercel/speed-insights`) and its own pricing. invisit records LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB from real visitors with the same script, by page, device, country and browser, and never bills them.

As of November 2026, [Speed Insights pricing](https://vercel.com/docs/speed-insights/limits-and-pricing) has two tiers. The free tier shows only the Real Experience Score, for 10,000 events per team over a rolling 30 days; past that, collection pauses for at least 14 days. Speed Insights Plus adds every Core Web Vital and full breakdowns (poor entries, countries, element selectors) for $10 per project a month on Pro, plus $0.65 per 10,000 events. Five projects on Plus cost $50 a month before events.

## Does Vercel Web Analytics use cookies, and where is the data stored?

Vercel Web Analytics sets no cookies. It tells visitors apart with a [hash of the request that resets every day](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics#how-visitors-are-determined), so nobody is followed from one day to the next. invisit works the same way: no cookies, no device identifiers, and a hash that rotates daily.

The differences are in the details. Vercel's [Data Processing Addendum](https://vercel.com/legal/dpa) says its primary processing facilities are in the United States, and Vercel is [certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework](https://vercel.com/docs/security/compliance) for transfers. invisit stores analytics data in Falkenstein, Germany, with Cloudflare (a US company) in front for DNS and CDN, and a [DPA](/legal/dpa) of its own.

invisit can honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track ([`respectGpc` and `respectDnt`](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/privacy.md)), has an optional [consent mode](https://invisit.dev/docs/guides/privacy.md#requiring-consent), strips sensitive URL parameters and property keys, and redacts email addresses in values. Vercel's Web Analytics docs mention neither signal and ask you to [redact sensitive URLs](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/redacting-sensitive-data) with a `beforeSend` function you write.

## When Vercel Web Analytics is the better choice

If your commercial site already runs on Vercel Pro, Vercel Web Analytics is one toggle and one `<Analytics />` component. It lands on the same bill, needs no new vendor, and serves from your own domain without proxy setup. Under about 6M events a month, it usually costs about the same as or less than an invisit plan.

The tracker is smaller: the `script.js` Vercel serves measures about 2 KB gzipped, against about 8.5 KB for invisit's core script.

[Vercel Flags](https://vercel.com/docs/flags/observability/web-analytics) annotates page views and events with flag values, in beta, and Vercel documents an [A/B test workflow](https://vercel.com/docs/flags/vercel-flags/cli/run-ab-test) on top of it. invisit has no feature flags or A/B tests.

Vercel Observability has an [AI Traffic tab](https://vercel.com/docs/observability/insights#ai-traffic) that counts AI crawler and assistant fetches at the edge, with no code. invisit records crawler reads too, but needs [`@invisitdev/server`](https://invisit.dev/docs/server/sdk.md#crawler-reads) on your server to see them. [Drains](https://vercel.com/docs/drains) can also stream raw page views and events to your own endpoint as they arrive.

## Switching from Vercel Web Analytics to invisit

1. Create a site in invisit and add `@invisitdev/web` next to `<Analytics />` ([installation](https://invisit.dev/docs/web/installation.md)). Run both for a few weeks so you can compare the numbers before you remove anything.
2. Map your custom events. The call has the same shape:

```ts title="src/analytics.ts"
import { track as vercelTrack } from '@vercel/analytics'
import { identify, init, track } from '@invisitdev/web'
init({ site: '<site id>' })
// Before: Vercel Web Analytics (2 properties on Pro, 8 with Plus)
vercelTrack('signup', { plan: 'pro' })
// After: invisit (up to 32 properties)
track('signup', { plan: 'pro' })
// After sign-in, attach your own user id (hashed)
identify(user.id)
```

3. Rename events that use spaces: invisit names take letters, digits and `_ . : -`, so `'My Event'` becomes `'my_event'`. Vercel's third `flags` argument has no equivalent; send the variant as a property instead. Server-side `track` calls from `@vercel/analytics/server` move to [server-side events](https://invisit.dev/docs/server/sdk.md#server-side-events) in `@invisitdev/server`.
4. Export your history. invisit cannot import it. Vercel offers [CSV export](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/using-web-analytics#exporting-data-as-csv) of up to 250 rows per panel and the [Web Analytics API](https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/web-analytics-api) for aggregated counts within your reporting window, such as daily page views by route. Drains only forward new events, so export before you downgrade to Hobby, whose window is one month.
5. Remove `<Analytics />` and the `@vercel/analytics` package, then choose Disable Web Analytics in the project's Analytics page so events stop being billed.

## Common questions

### Is invisit cheaper than Vercel Web Analytics?

At 1M events a month invisit costs $49 a month, and Vercel Web Analytics Pro costs $30 a month and Vercel Web Analytics Pro + Plus costs $40 a month. invisit bills page views and custom events; Vercel Web Analytics bills page views and custom events, pooled across all projects in a team. Prices checked against Vercel Web Analytics's pricing page on November 3, 2026.

### Does Vercel Web Analytics have a free plan?

Vercel Web Analytics has a limited free option: 50K events a month on Hobby, for non-commercial sites only. invisit is free up to 20K events a month with no time limit, and its free plan has nearly every feature.

### What does invisit have that Vercel Web Analytics does not?

invisit includes data stored in the EU, funnels, per-visit timelines, heatmaps, AI assistant referrals, revenue, public dashboards, short links, and on-page feedback; Vercel Web Analytics does not, as of November 3, 2026.

### When should I choose Vercel Web Analytics over invisit?

Vercel Web Analytics suits you better than invisit when one of these is true. Your commercial site already runs on Vercel Pro, and you want analytics on the same bill with no new vendor, script domain or proxy to set up. You stay under about 6M events a month: at $3 per 100K, Vercel events cost about the same as or less than invisit once Pro is paid for. You run feature flags or A/B tests with Vercel Flags and want page views and events split by variant. You want the smallest tracker: about 2 KB gzipped, a quarter of invisit's script. You want AI crawler and assistant fetches in Vercel Observability, read at the edge with no server SDK to install.

### When should I choose invisit over Vercel Web Analytics?

invisit suits you better than Vercel Web Analytics when one of these is true. Your site is hosted somewhere other than Vercel, or might move: invisit works on any host. You want data kept forever, not for a 1, 12 or 24 month reporting window. You need funnels, per-visit timelines, heatmaps or revenue from Stripe or Paddle, none of which Vercel Web Analytics offers. You want web vitals and AI assistant referrals in the same dashboard, with no per-project Speed Insights fee. You want analytics data stored in the EU, in Germany, rather than processed mainly in the US.

### Can I use Vercel Web Analytics on a site that is not hosted on Vercel?

Not on its own. As of November 2026, Vercel Web Analytics collects through routes Vercel adds to a deployment (/_vercel/insights/* and a unique path), and its docs describe it for sites deployed on Vercel. You can point the script and endpoints at another Vercel deployment, but a Vercel deployment always receives the data. invisit works on any host, with a script tag or the @invisitdev/web package.

### Can I use Vercel Web Analytics on the free Hobby plan for a business site?

No. Vercel restricts the Hobby plan to non-commercial personal use, and counts ads, selling a product or service, affiliate sites and paid client work as commercial. A commercial site needs Vercel Pro, which as of November 2026 is $20 a month per deploying seat, plus $3 per 100K Web Analytics events. invisit has a free plan of 20,000 events a month with no time limit and no card, and commercial sites may use it.

### How long does Vercel Web Analytics keep data?

As of November 2026, Vercel Web Analytics guarantees a reporting window of 1 month on Hobby, 12 months on Pro, and 24 months with the Web Analytics Plus add-on or on Enterprise. Vercel may keep data longer, but only the window is guaranteed, and API aggregate queries are limited to it. invisit keeps data forever on every plan.

### What does Vercel Web Analytics Plus add?

Web Analytics Plus is a $10 a month add-on per Vercel Pro team, as of November 2026. It extends the reporting window from 12 to 24 months, raises custom event properties from 2 to 8, and adds UTM parameter breakdowns. Events are still billed at $3 per 100K on top. invisit has no add-ons: every paid plan includes every feature.

### Does Vercel Web Analytics include Core Web Vitals?

No. Core Web Vitals come from Vercel Speed Insights, a separate product with its own package. As of November 2026 its free tier shows only the Real Experience Score, for 10,000 events per team over a rolling 30 days. Speed Insights Plus adds LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB for $10 per project a month on Pro, plus $0.65 per 10,000 events. invisit records the same five vitals with its main script and never bills them.

### How do I export my data from Vercel Web Analytics?

As of November 2026, Vercel Web Analytics offers CSV export of up to 250 rows per dashboard panel, a REST API for aggregated counts within your reporting window, and Drains, which stream raw page views and custom events to your own endpoint from the day you set one up (Pro or Enterprise, $0.50 per GB). Vercel documents no raw export of past events. invisit cannot import history, so export from Vercel before you switch.
