Does Vercel Web Analytics work if your site is not on Vercel?
Not on its own. Vercel Web Analytics collects through routes Vercel adds to your deployment (/_vercel/insights/* and a per-project unique path), so the pages, or at least those paths, must be served by a Vercel deployment. invisit works on any host, with a script tag or the @invisitdev/web package (installation, frameworks).
Vercel’s quickstart starts from a Vercel project and ends with vercel deploy, and the @vercel/analytics README describes tracking for sites “deployed to Vercel”. The package options can point its script and endpoints at another Vercel deployment, and the troubleshooting page advises against putting a reverse proxy in front of Vercel at all.
This matters most when you might move. Leaving Vercel stops collection, and what you collected is only guaranteed for your plan’s reporting window.
Vercel Web Analytics pricing: Hobby, Pro and Web Analytics Plus
Vercel Web Analytics is free on Hobby up to 50,000 events a month, but Hobby is for non-commercial sites only. Commercial sites need Pro, where events cost $3 per 100K and the Web Analytics Plus add-on is $10 a month per team. invisit has one feature set on every paid plan, priced by volume.
As of November 2026, from Vercel’s Web Analytics pricing and fair use guidelines:
| Vercel Hobby | Vercel Pro | Pro with Web Analytics Plus | invisit paid plans | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | $20 a month per deploying seat, then $3 per 100K events | Pro plus $10 a month | $14 for 100K events to $199 for 10M |
| Events | 50K a month, then collection stops after 3 days | Billed per event | Billed per event | Plan volume |
| Data kept | 1 month | 12 months | 24 months | Forever |
| Custom events | No | 2 properties | 8 properties | Up to 32 properties |
| Team members | Just you | $20 per deploying seat, viewers free | Same as Pro | On every plan |
Plus also adds UTM parameter breakdowns; invisit reports campaigns and UTM source and medium on every plan. Pro bills every collected event; Spend Management can alert you or pause projects at an amount you set. On invisit, the first month over your limit is still fully recorded, and only a second month over in a row pauses new events (billing).
How much does Vercel Web Analytics cost at 1M events?
On Vercel Pro, 1M events are $30 of usage. The Pro plan’s $20 monthly credit covers the first $20 of that, so a Pro team with no other usage pays $30, or $40 with Web Analytics Plus. invisit costs $49 at 1M events.
The Pro plan is a $20 platform fee that includes one deploying seat and $20 of usage credit. Each extra seat that can deploy is another $20; viewer seats are free. The credit is shared with everything else the team uses, such as functions and image optimization, so when hosting has spent it, analytics adds the full $3 per 100K on top. The price table above includes the $20 fee and assumes the credit goes to analytics.
| Events a month | Vercel event usage | Vercel Pro with Plus, analytics only | invisit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100K | $3 | $30 | $14 |
| 1M | $30 | $40 | $49 |
| 10M | $300 | $310 | $199 |
A worked example: a SaaS on Vercel Pro with 300K page views and 50K custom events sends 350K events, $10.50 of usage. If its hosting fits in the rest of the credit, the bill is the $20 fee plus $10 for Plus, $30 a month. If hosting has already spent the credit, it is $40.50. On invisit the same 350K events fall in the 1M plan at $49 a month, on any host.
So on price alone, a team that already pays for Vercel Pro gets Vercel’s analytics for about the same or less up to about 6M events a month. Above that invisit costs less: $199 at 10M against $310.
What can you track with Vercel Web Analytics custom events?
Vercel Web Analytics custom events are available on Pro and Enterprise only, with 2 properties per event on Pro and 8 with Web Analytics Plus. Values must be flat strings, numbers, booleans or null, at most 255 characters. invisit accepts up to 32 properties per event.
Vercel shows events in a panel you can drill into by property, and since December 2025 you can split the data by event name or property. There is no funnel report, no goal or conversion rate, and no per-visit view: Vercel’s privacy page says data is used for aggregated statistics only.
invisit builds funnels from pages or events, split by source, country or device, and saves them. Each visit keeps a timeline of its pages and events, live in the dashboard and at any age through the API and MCP, next to where it came from, and identify(user.id) attaches your own hashed user id. Heatmaps of clicks and scroll depth, and revenue from Stripe, Paddle and other providers, have no counterpart in Vercel Web Analytics.
Is Speed Insights included in Vercel Web Analytics?
No. Core Web Vitals live in Vercel Speed Insights, a separate product with its own package (@vercel/speed-insights) and its own pricing. invisit records LCP, INP, CLS, FCP and TTFB from real visitors with the same script, by page, device, country and browser, and never bills them.
As of November 2026, Speed Insights pricing has two tiers. The free tier shows only the Real Experience Score, for 10,000 events per team over a rolling 30 days; past that, collection pauses for at least 14 days. Speed Insights Plus adds every Core Web Vital and full breakdowns (poor entries, countries, element selectors) for $10 per project a month on Pro, plus $0.65 per 10,000 events. Five projects on Plus cost $50 a month before events.
Does Vercel Web Analytics use cookies, and where is the data stored?
Vercel Web Analytics sets no cookies. It tells visitors apart with a hash of the request that resets every day, so nobody is followed from one day to the next. invisit works the same way: no cookies, no device identifiers, and a hash that rotates daily.
The differences are in the details. Vercel’s Data Processing Addendum says its primary processing facilities are in the United States, and Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for transfers. invisit stores analytics data in Falkenstein, Germany, with Cloudflare (a US company) in front for DNS and CDN, and a DPA of its own.
invisit can honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track (respectGpc and respectDnt), has an optional consent mode, strips sensitive URL parameters and property keys, and redacts email addresses in values. Vercel’s Web Analytics docs mention neither signal and ask you to redact sensitive URLs with a beforeSend function you write.
When Vercel Web Analytics is the better choice
If your commercial site already runs on Vercel Pro, Vercel Web Analytics is one toggle and one <Analytics /> component. It lands on the same bill, needs no new vendor, and serves from your own domain without proxy setup. Under about 6M events a month, it usually costs about the same as or less than an invisit plan.
The tracker is smaller: the script.js Vercel serves measures about 2 KB gzipped, against about 8.5 KB for invisit’s core script.
Vercel Flags annotates page views and events with flag values, in beta, and Vercel documents an A/B test workflow on top of it. invisit has no feature flags or A/B tests.
Vercel Observability has an AI Traffic tab that counts AI crawler and assistant fetches at the edge, with no code. invisit records crawler reads too, but needs @invisitdev/server on your server to see them. Drains can also stream raw page views and events to your own endpoint as they arrive.
Switching from Vercel Web Analytics to invisit
- Create a site in invisit and add
@invisitdev/webnext to<Analytics />(installation). Run both for a few weeks so you can compare the numbers before you remove anything. - Map your custom events. The call has the same shape:
import { track as vercelTrack } from '@vercel/analytics'
import { identify, init, track } from '@invisitdev/web'
init({ site: '<site id>' })
// Before: Vercel Web Analytics (2 properties on Pro, 8 with Plus)
vercelTrack('signup', { plan: 'pro' })
// After: invisit (up to 32 properties)
track('signup', { plan: 'pro' })
// After sign-in, attach your own user id (hashed)
identify(user.id)- Rename events that use spaces: invisit names take letters, digits and
_ . : -, so'My Event'becomes'my_event'. Vercel’s thirdflagsargument has no equivalent; send the variant as a property instead. Server-sidetrackcalls from@vercel/analytics/servermove to server-side events in@invisitdev/server. - Export your history. invisit cannot import it. Vercel offers CSV export of up to 250 rows per panel and the Web Analytics API for aggregated counts within your reporting window, such as daily page views by route. Drains only forward new events, so export before you downgrade to Hobby, whose window is one month.
- Remove
<Analytics />and the@vercel/analyticspackage, then choose Disable Web Analytics in the project’s Analytics page so events stop being billed.
